Pesara pindi vuppindi (or) moong flour upma/ uppittu


Preparation time : 30 mins
Serves : 2

Ingredients :

Moong flour :  1/2 cup
Rice flour : 1 cup
Water : 1 3/4 cup to 2 cups
(Moong flour : rice flour = 1 : 2)
(Total flour : water = 1 : 1 1/4)
Onion : 1/2 small (optional)
Green chili : 2
Red chili : 2
Salt : to taste
Ginger : 1'' piece
For seasoning :
Mustard seeds : 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds : 1/4 tsp
Urad dal : 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves : few springs 

Method :
Take a pan, heat it.
Add 5 to 6 tbsp of oil.
Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, curry leaves and saute for few minutes.
Add crushed ginger, split green chili and red chili, saute them for a while.
If you are using onions add sliced onion and cook till it is done.
Add water and salt.
Check for seasoning.
Mix both the flours.
Once water comes to boil add flour.
Keep it in medium flame and mix it real good.
After some time the flour is cooked and it will open a bit.
Increase flame and cook for some more time by mixing it.
Your vuppindi is ready.


Serve it hot with any sweet or sour pickle and yogurt or curd.

Paala kura pulusu (or) spinach stew


Preparation time : 30 mins
Serves : 2

Ingredients :

Spinach : one bunch (or) 1 or 1 1/2 cup of chopped spinach
Onion : 1 small
Garlic cloves : 6 or few
Tamarind juice : 1/4 cup
Salt : to taste
Turmeric : pinch
Green chili : 2 or few
Sesame seeds : 2 tsp
Rice flour  : 1/2 tsp or 1 tsp (optional)
Coriander leaves : few
For seasoning :
Mustard seeds : 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds : 1/ 4 tsp
Urad dal : 1/2 tsp

Method :

Take a pan , heat it , add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and urad dal, saute them for few seconds.
Add cubes of onion and then add garlic , turmeric powder.
Cook it till onions are cooked.
Add spinach, cover and cook till spinach is done.
Add tamarind pulp, let it boil for some time till it is cooked.
Grind together green chili's, rice flour and sesame seeds into paste.
Add paste to the cooked mixture and cook for few minutes.
Garnish it with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
Serve it hot with rice.

chenaga podi (or) Chanadal powder for rice


Preparation time : 30 mins
Makes : 250grms

Ingredients :

Chana dal : 250grms
Garlic : 1 (full) (Roughly take out the skin, not completely)
Red chili's : 6 (or to taste)
Grated coconut : 5 tbsp
Salt : to taste

Method :

Take a pan, fry dal along with garlic and red chili's.
Fry them till they slightly change their colour to nice golden brown or till you get nice aroma .
Separate dal from garlic and red chili.
Take dal into jar and grind it into a nice powder .
Sieve dal and keep it aside.
Fry grated coconut till it slightly changes its colour.
Grind fried coconut, garlic and red chili's into a fine powder.
Mix this powder with sieved dal.



Add salt, adjust to your taste.
Since we grounded everything we need to wait until the powder comes down to room temperature.
When it is hot , some times it may be lumpy, after you cool it completely , just mix it once with a fork or with your hand.
Tasty tasty chenaga podi is ready :)
Enjoy your podi with hot rice and with a little oil/ ghee.

Bourbon biscuit

Generally i don't like chocolate very much, but some how i like bourbon biscuits very much.... So i tried making them and here is the recipe for it .... :)


Preparation time : 30 mins
Makes : 12 - 16

Ingredients :

Butter : 50 grms
Sugar : 50 grms
Golden syrup (or) Honey : 1 tbsp
Plain flour (or) maida : 110 grms
Coco powder : 15 grms
Baking soda : 1/2 tsp
For filling (or) for cream :
Icing sugar : 75 grms
Butter : 50 grms
Coco powder : 1tbsp
Coffee essence : 1 tbsp (or) 1/2 tsp of instant coffee dissolved in a tsp of water

Method :

Preheat oven to 160 degrees centigrade .
Cream the butter , sugar together well, beat in the golden syrup.
Sift the flour, cocoa and baking soda together and work into the creamed mixture to make a stiff paste.
Knead well then cut out the shapes.
Roll out on a lightly floured surface into an oblong strip about 5mm thick.
Cut into 6 cm fingers.


Place on a greased baking sheet covered with grease proof paper.
Sprinkle some sugar on top.


Bake for 15 to 20 mins.


Leave to cool on a rack.
Prepare filling by sifting icing sugar, beat the butter until soft, add the sugar, coco, and coffee.


Spread on the biscuit and sandwich together.


Yummy Bourbon biscuits are ready to serve.

vegetable biryani - 1



Preparation time : 30 mins
Serves : 4 - 5

Ingredients :

Basmati Rice (or) any long grain rice : 6 cups
(To cook rice , rice : water = 1 : 1 1/2 )
Onion : 2 (big)
Green chili : 4 - 6
Ginger garlic paste : 1 tbsp
Mint leaves : hand full
Coriander leaves : hand full
Biryani masala : 1 tbsp
Coriander powder : 1 tbsp
Cumin powder : 1/2 tbsp
Salt : to taste
Whole spices :
Cloves : 3
Cinnamon : 2 " stick
Cardamom : 2
Bay leaf : 2

Method :

Soak rice for at least half an hour.
Take a vessel (you can even use pressure cooker), heat it.
Add some oil or ghee or butter to it.
Add cloves, cardamom, cinnamon stick and bay leaf.
Saute them  a bit.
Add Big chunks of onion, slit green chili and ginger garlic paste, saute them for a minute.
(They are going to cook with rice , so no need to saute them for longer time)
Add chopped mint leaves and coriander leaves.
(If you are using dried leaves , then add 2 tbsp of each)
Now add biryani masala .
(you can use store bought one, other wise it is a powder made of cinnamon stick,clove and cardamom in the ratio 1 : 1: 1/2 )
Add coriander powder and cumin powder, fry it for half minute.
Now add drained soaked rice and fry it a bit.
Add sufficient water and then add salt to taste.
[Don't forget to add salt as it is difficult to mix it with cooked rice, i generally forget to add salt ;) ]
Check for seasoning , if any thing needs to be added then add it now.
Add a tbsp of ghee or oil or butter.
Cover and cook till for 1/2 hour or till done.
(If you are using pressure cooker , cook it as you cook your rice)
Yummy yummy biryani is ready to go.
Serve it hot.
